Boy sperm vs. girl sperm

Have you ever thought of having a baby with a particular gender? It has nothing wrong to have a gender preference. In fact, more than half of the couples would like to know how to conceive a baby boy or a girl, and more than 80% couples choose to know their baby gender during pregnancy.

In general, the odd to conceive a boy and a girl is half and half. But you can definitely increase the rate to get pregnancy with a boy or a girl. Artificial insemination, which can separate the “boys” and “girls” artificially is one of the most reliable methods. But it is also the most expensive one that few couple can afford it. Luckily, there are still quite a few natural methods that have been proved to be very effective in gender selection.

In order to get pregnant, a woman must release an egg and a man must make sperms. The woman’s egg will travel through a fallopian tube toward the uterus. A man’s sperm must reach the egg and fertilize it along the way. Although a man can make millions of sperms, only one who reaches the egg first can fertilize the egg. This lucky sperm controls the gender of the baby.

A woman’s egg contains 23 chromosomes, while the 23rd chromosome is always an X. A sperm contains 23 chromosomes too, while the 23rd chromosome can be either an X or a Y. Only one sperm can join the egg and the 23 single chromosomes from the egg and the 23 from the sperm form a complete set of 23 pairs, 46 in total. If a sperm with the 23rd chromosome being X (girl sperm, X-sperm) fertilized the egg, a baby girl is conceived. If a sperm with the 23rd chromosome being Y (boy sperm, Y-sperm) fertilized the egg, a baby boy is conceived.

Gender selection is possible because boy sperm and girl sperm are different. Boys sperm are smaller, move faster, with shorter lifetime than girl sperms. Boy sperms also favor an alkaline environment. By timing the intercourse, changing the woman’s vaginal PH, and many other methods, you can increase the odd to conceive a baby boy or girl.
